The Academy maintains a dual role, to improve the reading skills of deaf and hard of hearing children and to teach their families to read and communicate with their children. Through American Sign Language instruction parents can become their child’s first and lifelong teacher.

The Deaf Family Literacy Academy serves deaf children (ages birth-12 years) and their families. The program includes home visits by a deaf mentor, language and reading instruction for deaf children, sign language instruction for parents, and Parent and Child Together activities.
