History

Our family literacy academy effort is indebted to the vision of former First Lady Barbara Bush and her son, Jeb Bush. Their passion and leadership has helped us to provide a unique educational opportunity for over 6,000 families.

Family literacy programs are so important!  The staff, teachers and volunteers at these programs help parents and their children learn and read together, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to thrive in all aspects of their lives.”   – former First Lady Barbara Bush

Our family literacy academies offer students at no cost:

-       Adult Literacy Education: Emphasizes reading, writing, math, workforce skills, English for speakers of other languages and GED.  For some students, we provide American Sign Language instruction to help parents learn to communicate with and teach their deaf or hard of hearing child.

-       Child Literacy Education: Prepares children to enter school at or above grade level through age appropriate lessons and literacy activities.

-       Parenting Education: Emphasizes life and parenting skills, child development, financial literacy and family reading strategies.

-       Parent and Child Together (PACT) Time: A dedicated class where parents practice intergenerational learning activities.
